Ciel-perdue technique

(wax-bronze-technique)

- First the iron framing is created.

-  The sculpture is built/modeled of clay on the iron framing.

- The negative calcium sulfate form is molded using the clay form.

- Then the positive calcium sulfate form is molded.

- The positive calcium sulfate form is the basis for the silicon-form.

- Hot wax is poured into the silicon form. As soon as the outside of the form is cold and hard, the silicon is removed and the hot wax from the inside pored out.

- The positive wax form is used to create the negative form made of sand, fire-clay and calcium sulfate that hardens at 600 degrees Celsius.

- The wax model is still in the negative form, that at 100 Celsius melts and it will be poured out.

- Bronze (1200 degrees Celsius) is poured  into this negative form which will harden in 24 hours.

- The form will be cracked into pieces.

- The sculpture is then polished and finally encased.
