Transport on arrival

Airport
Choose from the following options to get to your accomodation place:
  • Minibus (3900 Forint / 15,6 Euro round-trip)
  • Taxi (20-30 Euro)
  • Public transport (2 Euro)
Find more information on the airport's website

Train stations
You arrive in the middle of the city. The options are:
  • Taxi (3-8 Euro, if you call a taxi by phone)
  • Public transport (1-2 Euro)
If you head to the CEU dorm, refer to the directions provided here
To go to the other places, see below at "Accomodation"

Accomodation
The different hostels / hotels provide good information on their websites, including the way to go there:
Getting to CEU, Workshop location
From all the accomodation places (except CEU dorm) you can practically walk to CEU within 20 minutes.

Going by public transport
From Marco Polo:
It is possible to catch the bus 7 (black), 73 and 78 on Rakoczi ut (stop: Kazinczy utca) and ride to next stop Astoria (change to Bus 18-47V that goes to Deak Square) or to the second-next stop Ferenciek ter (change to Bus 15 that goes to Arany Janos utca), but the transfers are apparently more time-consuming than the bus rides (duration: 20 min).

From CEU dorm:
Catch Bus 44 or 44A in front of the building. At the terminal (Örs vezer
ter) you may change to the metro (red line) and go to Kossuth Lajos ter. When you exit the metro to the right, you will find at the next corner Nador Street going down to the right. (Don't walk towards Parliament!). Walk down the street for about seven minutes till you get to Nr 9 (duration: 35-40 min depending on connection).

After 23:30: Instead of metro and bus, you can catch night buses back directly from the center to the CEU dorm:
Nr 908 (get on every hour somewhere between Ferenciek tere (always .42, first 23.42) and Keleti station (always .53), get off at Pilisi utca)
Nr 931 (get on every hour somewhere between Nyugati station (always .14, first 0.14), Deak ter, Astoria and Keleti station (always .26), get off at Pilisi utca)

Going on foot
From Marco Polo:
Take a right on Nyar utca and a right on Dohany utca at the next corner.
Walk up Dohany utca until you pass the synagogue where Dohany utca ends.
Take a right again on big Karoly korut. Walk down the street straight all through a big crossroads and traffic lights (the street will eventually turn to Bajcsy-Zsilinszky ut) until you see a big cathedral (The Basilica) on your left. Take a left at
the Basilica and cross the little square. Keep walking on Zrinyi utca and
find CEU at the corner of Zrinyi and Nador u. (Third block from the little square, duration: 20 min)

Orientation
These are the sites where you find a suitable route planner:
BKV (with street number, only Hungarian, you will find out :-)
Hot Maps (English, but without street number)

Public transport prices
In general one ticket is valid for one trip without changing.
A day-card is worth buying when making more than 6 trips per day. There are also three-day and seven-day-cards. Try to avoid to buy the Budapest card, which is a three-day card with supplementary reductions (unless you really want to see a lot of museums)
