Aim of course: This seminar course will focus on the formation of national capitals in East-Central Europe. There are different types of national capitals because there were differences in the formation of national states in the area. There are rather new-born and old cities; there are changes in the role of national capitals. Also we will examine the necessary elements of national capitals and the ideologies which are connected with urbanity. 

Method: Each week we will have a presentation. The presentation has to include 4 elements: birth of the idea of a national capital; development of a capital; parts of the meaning of a capital; ideologies concerning a capital. 

Requirements: Each student has to give a presentation and also to take part in the discussion. 

Evaluation (2 CR course)
