MS PowerPoint - Guides for Good Presentations

The course focuses on creating and managing efficient presentations, timing details, creating organizational charts as well as dealing with graphic and dynamic elements.

Course details

Level: Beginner/Intermediate
Duration: 3 days

Course outline

Day 1:

  • PP basics/menus:
  • Toolbars – standard, formatting, animation effects, common tasks, drawing
  • PP views and previews (animation preview from the “slide show” menu) and also about the B/W view (ALSO the function of the “slide miniature” - “view menu)
  • Page setup and most common menus
  • Creating the structure of a presentation in Outline view
  • Inserting, moving, deleting, duplicating slides (outline vs. Slide Sorter view)
  • Slide formatting (background, slide layout, color scheme, apply design)
  • Inserting text and objects: pictures, sounds, word tables, excel sheets + excel chart (paste special & “Insert Chart” button), arrow, lines, shapes
    -image border, shadow, etc.
    -media
    -wordArt
    -formatting the inserted objects; use of guides
  • Export to Word

Day 2:

  • Grouping and ungrouping of slide elements, bring to front/send to back
  • Animations (custom animation effects, text, pictures + animation preview)
  • Creating the slide show (transitions, timing, recording etc.)
  • In-presentation actions: “pen” use, hide slide, “pack and go”
  • A list of Dos and Don’ts/tips (colors, fonts, unity, simple graphics)

Day 3:

  • Printing your presentation
  • Other presentation options: header, footer, slide number, navigation buttons
  • Organization Chart (explanations, examples, in-class task)
