Novell GroupWise
Lecture B:

This mandatory brief pre-session course aims to familiarize the student with the use and customization of the default e-mail application at CEU - GroupWise.

Course outline

  • How to start the software: Start > Programs > Groupwise or from NAL (Novell Application Launcher)
  • New mail: File - New Mail or from the shortcut icon
  • Attachments
  • Addressing options: if the mail is not a CEU address just type it it, if the mail is a CEU address start the address book
    • The Address Book has 4 parts: Novell GroupWise Address Book, Frequent Contacts, User’’s AB, Novell LDAP Address Book
    • Novell GroupWise Address Book: start typing the user’s first name, then it automatically jumps to the address
    • You can also search by Last name or Department
    • To address your mail to several people you can create and save a personal group by selecting the names you want to use and click Save Group.
    • The Address Book is also a good resource to find people’s phone numbers, offices, etc.

  • Set/Change Mailbox Passwords and Remote To use Remote mode: you must assign a password to your Online Mailbox. To set a password:
    • In the Main Window, click Tools > Options.
    • Double-click Security > click the Password tab.
    • In the New Password text box, type the password.
    • In the Confirm New Password text box, type the password > click OK > Close.
    • GroupWise passwords are case-sensitive (for example, Wednesday is not the same as WEDNESDAY).

  • Folders
    Use folders to store and organize your GroupWise® items. For example, you can group all items related to a particular task or subject together.
  • Shared Folders
    A shared folder is like any other folder in your Cabinet, except other people have access to it. You can create shared folders or share existing personal folders in your Cabinet. You choose whom to share the folder with, and what rights to grant each user.
  • To create a folder
    • In the Folder List, click File > New > Folder.
      • To create a folder that only you can access, make sure Personal Folder is selected > click Next. or To create a folder that others can access, click Shared Folder > click Next.
    • Type the name and description for the new folder.
    • Click Up, Down, Right, or Left to position the folder where you want it in the Folder List > click Next.
    • Specify the display settings for the folder.
      • If you’re creating a personal folder, click Finish. Skip the rest of the steps.
      • OR If you’re creating a shared folder, click Next. Go to the next step.
    • In the Name box, start typing the name of a user.
    • When the user’s name appears in the box, click Add User to move the user into the Share List.
    • Click the user’s name in the Share List.
    • Select the access options you want for the user.
    • Repeat Steps 7-10 for each user you want to share the folder with.
    • When you’re done, click Finish.

  • To access the Notice board
    • click proxy in the Main Window
    • Click Proxy.
    • In the name field start typing Notice board for Students then click OK.
    • The Notice board for Students is opened. To return to your own Mailbox
    • click proxy
    • click your name

To post messages to the whole CEU Community you need to address your message from your own mailbox to Notice board for Students or Notice board for CEU.
