with the basic of JavaScript programming and the implementation
and use of Java in webdesign.

Course outline
Day 1
Introduction to javascript. What it is and how
it works. Netscape versus IE. Brief introduction to PHP (server
side) to compare the difference.
- Examples of interesting and entertaining examples of Javascript.
e.g. www.visibone.com - color selector
- Quick look at code and where it sits in the page
Day 2
Experimenting with javascript focusing on the pop-up (a much used
and abused function).
- The alert box - adding your own text
- Making multiple pop-ups (endless), pop-ups on window closing,
pop-up on a link click
Day 3
Selection of the topics from below according to
interest and time:
- Using a timer to delay an event
- Changing text and parameters in existing javascript using a
timer
- On screen clock or count down
- Changing colors and proportions with javascript.
Day 4
Introduction to collecting information - The Form
- Form elements
- Form calling other page to display entered data
- Email contents of a form
Day 5
Tidy up js
- How do search engines work
- Meta tags and optimising for search engines.
- Different types of search engines - google, etc
- The politics of search engines (how they
drive design issues)
